  2. Foot Taiyin Spleen Channel

  3. The Spleen primary channel connects with the following zangfu: Spleen, Stomach, Heart.

  4. THE SPLEEN LUO-CONNECTING CHANNEL • originates at Gongsun SP-4, • connects with Stomach channel, • enters the abdomen and connects with the intestines and Stomach.

  5. THE SPLEEN DIVERGENT CHANNEL • branches from the primary channel in the middle of the anterior thigh, • follows the Stomach divergent channel to the throat where it penetrates the tongue.

  6. The Spleen has five principal functions: • Dominating the transportation and transformation of the liquid and solid products of digestion after they have been ‘rotted and ripened’ by the Stomach. It therefore plays a major role in the digestive process, the production of qi and blood, the function of the intestines and the proper discharge of fluid.

  7. Controlling the blood, dominating the first stage of its formation and holding it in its proper place and preventing hemorrhage. • Dominating the muscles and the four limbs, providing vigor and bulk. • Opening into the mouth and dominating the sense of taste. • Controlling the raising of qi to counteract sinking and prolapse.

The actions and indications of the points of the Spleen channel can be summarized as: • treating failure of the transportation and transformation function, resulting in borborygmus, loose stools, undigested food in the stool, poor appetite etc. • treating disorders of the intestines such as diarrhea and constipation. • tonifying qi and blood.

  9. treating retention of dampness resulting in distention and pain of the abdomen, edema, heaviness of the body, soreness of the muscles and joints etc. • resolving blood stasis, especially in the uterus, and cooling the blood. • reinforcing the Spleen function of holding blood in its proper place. • raising qi and treating prolapse.

YINBAI SP-1*** • Jing-Well and Wood point • Sun Si-miao Ghost point • ACTIONS: Stops bleeding, regulates the Spleen, unbinds the chest, calms the Heart and spirit and restores consciousness • INDICATIONS: Bleeding: uterine bleeding, bloody stools, menorrhagia. Mental disorders, dream-disturbed sleep, ab distension.

  11. DADU SP-2** • Ying-Spring and fire point • ACTIONS: Regulates the Spleen, resolves dampness and damp-heat, harmonizes the middle jiao and clears heat • INDICATIONS: Damp or Damp-heat stagnation: abdominal distension, swelling of the limbs, agitation, febrile diseases with no sweating.

  12. TAIBAI SP-3*** • Shu-Stream, Yuan-Source and Earth • ACTIONS: Tonifies the Spleen and resolves dampness and damp-heat, harmonizes the Spleen and Stomach, regulates qi • INDICATIONS: SP-ST Deficiency: abdominal distension, constipation, diarrhea, borborygmus, sluggishness, joint pains.

  13. GONGSUN SP-4**** • Luo-Connecting point • Confluent point of the Penetrating vessel • ACTIONS: Fortifies the Spleen and harmonizes the middle jiao, regulates qi and resolves dampness, calms the spirit, benefits the Heart and chest, regulates the Penetrating vessel

  14. INDICATIONS: Epigastric pain, vomiting, abdominal pain and distension, diarrhea, mania-depression, insomnia and restlessness, Heart pain, irregular menstruation, gynecological disorders.

SHANGQIU SP-5** • Jing-River and Metal point • ACTIONS: Fortifies the Spleen and resolves dampness, benefits the sinews and bones, calms the spirit • INDICATIONS: Abdominal distension, constipation, diarrhea, borborygmus, pain and stiffness of tongue, pain in foot and ankle, excessive thinking, nightmares, hemorrhoid. • Worsley: Varicose veins

  16. SANYINJIAO SP-6***** • Meeting point of the Spleen, Liver and Kidney channels

  17. ACTIONS • Tonifies the Spleen and Stomach • Resolves dampness • harmonizes the Liver and tonifies the Kidneys • Regulates menstruation and induces labour • harmonizes the lower jiao

  18. Regulates urination and benefits the genitals • Calms the spirit • Invigorates blood • Activates the channel and alleviates pain

Spleen and Stomach deficiency: heavy body with heaviness of the four limbs, edema, borborygmus, diarrhea, abdominal distention, etc. • GYN: Irregular menstruation, uterine bleeding, menorrhagia, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, abdominal masses in women, leukorrhoea, uterine prolapse. • OB: Infertility, restless fetus syndrome, delayed, prolonged or difficult labour, retention of lochia, post-partum dizziness.

  20. Men: Seminal emission, impotence, pain of the genitals, contracted testicles, shan disorder. • Urinary: Difficult urination, enuresis, urinary dysfunction. • Palpitations, insomnia, Gall Bladder deficiency. • Dizziness, blurred vision, tinnitus, hypertension. • Damp: Skin diseases, joint pain, swelling, etc

  21. LOUGU SP-7** • ACTIONS: Fortifies the Spleen and resolves dampness, promotes urination and disperses swelling • INDICATIONS: Abdominal distension, borborygmus, coldness, numbness and paralysis of the knee and leg. • Wasting thirst, diabetic neuropathy

  22. DIJI SP-8**** • Xi-Cleft point of the Spleen channel • ACTIONS: Regulates menstruation and invigorates blood, harmonizes the Spleen and resolves dampness, moderates acute conditions • INDICATIONS: Dysmenorrhoea, irregular menstruation, abdominal masses in women, abdominal pain and distension, difficult urination, edema.

  23. YINLlNGQUAN SP-9***** • He-Sea and Water point • ACTIONS: Regulates the Spleen and resolves dampness, opens and moves the water passages, benefits the lower jiao • INDICATIONS: Dampness: edema, swelling of the lower limbs, retention of urine, difficult urination, enuresis, qi painful urinary dysfunction, abdominal distention, diarrhea.

  24. XUEHAI SP-10**** • ACTIONS: Invigorates the blood and dispels stasis, cools blood, harmonizes menstruation, benefits the skin • INDICATIONS: Blood disorders (esp stasis/heat): Irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, uterine bleeding, bloody urine. • Skin: Urticaria, eczema, herpes zoster, redness, pain and itching.

  25. JIMEN SP-11* • ACTIONS: Regulates urination, drains damp and clears heat • INDICATIONS: Dysuria, enuresis, pain and swelling in the inguinal region, pain and paralysis of the lower extremities.

  26. FUSHE SP-13* • ACTIONS: Regulates qi and alleviates pain • INDICATIONS: Lower abdominal pain, hernia.

  27. FUJIE SP-14* • ACTIONS: Warms and benefits the lower jiao, regulates qi and descends rebellion • INDICATIONS: Pain around the umbilical region, abdominal distension, hernia, diarrhea, constipation.

  28. DAHENG SP-15*** • ACTIONS: Moves qi and regulates the intestines • INDICATIONS: Constipation, abdominal pain and distension, diarrhea, dysentery.

  29. FUAI SP-16 • ACTIONS: Regulates the intestines • INDICATIONS: Abdominal pain, indigestion, constipation, dysentery.

  30. SHlDOU SP-17* • ACTIONS: Dissipates accumulation of food and fluid and promotes digestion. • INDICATIONS: Fullness and pain in the chest and hypochondriac region.

  31. TIANXI SP-18* • ACTIONS: Regulates and descends qi, Benefits the breasts and promotes lactation • INDICATIONS: Fullness and pain in the chest and hypochondriac region, cough, hiccup, mastitis, insufficient lactation.

  32. XIONGXIANG SP-19* • ACTIONS: Regulates and descends qi and unbinds the chest • INDICATIONS: Fullness and pain in the chest and hypochondriac region.

  33. ZHOURONG SP-20* • ACTIONS: Regulates and descends qi and unbinds the chest • INDICATIONS: Fullness and pain in the chest and hypochondriac region, cough, hiccup.

  34. DABAO SP-21** • Great Luo-Connecting point of the Spleen • ACTIONS: Regulates qi and blood and firms the sinews and joints, unbinds the chest and benefits the lateral costal region • INDICATIONS: Pain of the whole body, weariness of the four limbs, flaccidity of the limbs, cough, dyspnea, pain in the chest and lateral costal region

  35. Hand Shaoyin Heart Channel

  36. The Heart primary channel connects with the following zangfu: Heart, Lung and Small Intestine.

  37. THE HEART LUO-CONNECTING CHANNEL separates from the Heart channel at HE-5 and connects with the Small Intestine channel, follows the Heart channel to the Heart zang then continues to the root of the tongue and the eye.

  38. The Heart divergent channelseparates from the primary channel at the axilla, connects with the Heart,connects with the Small Intestine channel at the inner canthus

  39. The Heart has five principal functions: • governing the blood and blood vessels • housing the spirit • opening into the tongue • governing sweating • manifesting in the complexion

  40. The actions and indications of the points of the Heart channel can be summarized as: • Treating pain of the chest and Heart and disorders of Heart rhythm. • In clinical practice, points of the Pericardium channel are mostly used for pain of the chest and Heart, while disorders of Heart rhythm are treated by selecting points from both channels. • Regulating and calming the spirit.

  41. Treating disorders of the tongue and speech, including loss of voice, stiffness of the tongue, and painful and swollen tongue. • Treating disorders of the throat such as pain, swelling and congestion. • Treating disorders of the eyes. • Treating various disorders of the face and complexion.

  42. JlQUAN HE-1* • ACTIONS: Unbinds the chest, activates the channel and benefits the arm • INDICATIONS: Heart bi, chest pain, shortness of breath, scrofula, cold pain of the elbow and arm, dryness of the throat.

  43. QINGLlNG HE-2* • ACTIONS: Activates the channel and alleviates pain • INDICATIONS: Inability to raise the shoulder and arm, swelling, pain and redness of the shoulder, pain of the axilla, headache with cold shivering, yellow eyes, pain of the lateral costal region, scrofula.

  44. SHAOHAI HE-3*** • He-Sea and Water point • ACTIONS: Calms the spirit, transforms phlegm and clears heat, activates the channel and benefits the arm • INDICATIONS: Heart pain, swelling and pain of the elbow joint, pain, tremors or numbness of the arm, mania, epilepsy, scrofula, axillary and hypochondriac pain.

  45. LlNGDAO HE-4*** • Jing-River and Metal point • ACTIONS: Calms the spirit and benefits the voice, Relaxes the muscles and sinews • INDICATIONS: Heart pain, sadness and fear, restless zang disorder, sudden loss of voice, contraction of the elbow and arm, itching of the hand, swelling and pain of the fingers.

  46. TONGLI HE-5**** • Luo-Connecting point • ACTIONS: Calms the spirit, regulates Heart rhythm, benefits the tongue, activates the channel and alleviates pain • INDICATIONS: Heart Qi deficiency: Frequent yawning and groaning, restless zang disorder, anger, sadness and fright, sudden loss of voice, stuttering, palpitations, stiffness of the tongue, eye pain, elbow, wrist and hand pain

YINXI HE-6**** • Xi-Cleft point of the Heart channel • ACTIONS: Regulates Heart blood, calms the spirit, moderates acute conditions, clears deficiency fire and alleviates night sweating • INDICATIONS: Heart Yin-Blood Deficiency: Heart pain, palpitations, fright, epilepsy, night sweating, insomnia, steaming bone disorder.

  48. SHENMEN HE-7***** • Shu Stream, Yuan Source and Earth point • ACTIONS: Calms the spirit, regulates and tonifies the Heart • INDICATIONS: All Heart deficiency patterns, esp w/Shen disturbance: Insomnia, talking during sleep, poor memory, mania-depression, epilepsy, dementia, sadness, fear and fright, restless zang disorder. • Palpitations, irregular heart rhythm

  49. SHAOFU HE-8*** • Ying-Spring and Fire point • ACTIONS: Clears heat from the Heart and Small Intestine, calms the spirit, regulates Heart qi, activates the channel, alleviates pain • INDICATIONS: Palpitations, fright, fear, chest pain, pain of the genitals, difficult urination, contraction of the little finger or hand, heat of the palms, pain of the arm, contraction of the elbow and axilla.

  50. SHAOCHONG HE-9** • Jing-Well and Wood point • ACTIONS: Revives consciousness, clears heat and benefits the tongue, eyes and throat, regulates Heart qi, calms the spirit • INDICATIONS: Heart pain, palpitations, pounding of the Heart, loss of consciousness, mania-depression, epilepsy, fright, febrile disease with agitation, pain in tongue, pain in arm and hand.
