  2. Characters • The three main characters are Amos, Violet, and Celyndia. • Amos is there throughout the book, hence why he is a main character. • Violet is Amos’s wife. • Celyndia is Violet’s daughter.

  3. Rising Action • Amos (or At-mun, his African name) was captured by slavers! He is taken to Boston and sold a slave to Caleb Copeland.

  4. Falling Action • Amos gives all his money to the church and school. He dies within the year, 1801, and Violet dies the next year.

  5. The Chosen One • This book was chosen for our historical fiction book club theme because this happened in a real place in a time when things like this were actually happening.

  6. Where and When it Happened • This book starts in 1725 and ends in 1801, when Amos dies. In the beginning, the people are in Africa. Then Amos goes to Woburn as the slave of Mr. Copeland. Then he goes and makes a living in Jaffrey.

  7. Independence • This book displays indepence because Amos does a lot of things on his own. He is independent since he was captured in Africa. After Africa is independent throughout his slave and free life.

  8. Climax • The climax happens when Amos goes to Jaffrey and gets married to Violet. It is in Jaffrey and with Violet where he gives his saved money away and dies.

  9. Resolution • The resolution is when Amos understands that he will die soon, and he gives his money to the church and school.
