  1. Flight Plan for Tuesday, 4 May 2010 Across the Los Angeles basin to examine the spatial distribution, chemical evolution and transport of pollutants Default climb rate 1000-1500 ft/min Default altitude in Planetary Boundary Layer 1000 – 1500 ft AGL Access to plane: 7:00 PDT Pt. 0 : Ontario (KONT) Takeoff: : 10:00 PDT Pt. 1-Pt. 2, Vertical profiles near San Nicolas and Catalina Islands If marine stratocumulus clouds are present dedicate one hour for cloud module If there are no appropriate clouds, ship plume study (flight scientist calls) Pt. 3 – Pt. 8 focus on the vertical distribution of pollutants (fresh emissions down low, residual pollution from previous days aloft) by missed approaches, spiral and ladder profiles Ladder profiles: 3 min constant altitude legs at altitudes from 1000 ft to 13000 ft between San Bernardino and Fontana, as well as, Azusa and Pasadena. (altitude change by spiral ascent/descent at end points) Pt. 9 – Pt. 11 Look for signs of the upward transport of pollutants from the LA basin to the crest of the San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountains Pt. 16 – Pt. 18 emission characterization in Perris Valley (skydiving activity) Pt. 19 – Pt. 23 Transport to the high desert, (including profile NW of Joshua Tree National Park) Return to Ontario (KONT) airport, estimated time 6hrs Plan for 05/04/10
