  6. The Skinny on Fat • Childhood Obesity has TRIPLED in last 30 yrs. Ages 6-11 1980 – 6.5% 2008 – 19.6% Ages 12-19 1980 – 5.0 2008 – 18.1 • In U.S. – Children ages 6-11 spend ~ 30 hours/week watching TV or on a computer • Counterintuitive – also the greatest increase in participation in organized sports • Study in Norway/Sweden – preschoolers who played in uneven natural VS flat playgrounds tested higher for motor fitness
