  2. Who is Elie Wiesel? Author of book “Night” . “Night” is based on his experiences as a prisoner in Auschwitz, Buna and Buchenwald concentration camps. Ethnicity-Romanian Born September 30, 1928 (age 85) Holocaust survivor and award winning novelist. After leaving the concentration camps only him and his 2 sisters survived

  3. Cont’Who is Elie Wiesel in the book? • 15 year old Wiesel was forced into the “ghetto”. • Transported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. • Separated from family. • Struggled to survive against starvation and abuse.

  4. What did he do after the Holocaust? • After Holocaust spent a few years as an orphan. • Reunited with Hilda and Bea. • Wiesel refused to write about or discuss his experiences during the holocaust. • 1948 Elie began to study.

  5. Where was Elie Wiesel born/PUBLISHED HIS BOOK? • Born in SighetMarmatiel, Romania • Born September 30, 1928 • Liberated in April 1945 • Later wrote Night in 1948 and the book was first printed in Yiddish in 1955 and translated to english

Why is Elie Wiesel important? • Spoken out against genocide and has taken action for the good of the common people. • Won the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts survived the Holocaust. • Able to express through his writing events that occurred during the Holocaust. • Informed society about the horrible event and experiences. • Survivor Holocaust

  7. Why was the book called Night? • It was a dark time where people would die. • Depressing • Period of time where no Jews were free from concentration camps. • Never happy • Wanted to tell the world about the most painful and darkest time in his life.

How did Elie change after the Holocaust experiences? • He believed in his religion but once he realized during his time in the camp that there wasn’t a god to help him or save anyone. • After the Holocaust he became a better person. • He became an orphan. • Never wrote anything else besides the Holocaust/Nazis.
