SAFETY • FIRST Robotics Competition Team Safety Manual http://www.usfirst.org/uploadedFiles/Community/FRC/Team_Resources/Team_Resources_Assets/FRC_Team_Safety_Manual.pdf • Safety Glasses • Gloves • No loose clothing or jewelry • No goofing off in lab • No operating the robot with people working in or on the robot • Enforce Safety in work areas and Competition

  4. COMMUNICATION • The survival of Memphis U.S. First absolutely depends on communication • Designated reporter • Designated photographer • Designated blogger • Mr. Dan Kohn’s website built for Memphis based U.S. First: http://memphisfirstteams.org/

COMMUNICATION (CONTINUED) • Team’s web site, can be hosted by Mr. Kohn, used as primary means of communication • Google Groups, facebook • make sure that the location is setup for public viewing • web using WordPress • If you’re not using Mr. Kohn’s website let him know and give him the location so that he can link to your communication location

  6. PARTS MANAGEMENT • To organize parts use zip lock baggies or other containers • Use First Choice to order additional parts free (has a limit) and you pay for shipping • Order in free parts (PVD’s) that will be in the KOP. If you don’t know what to order at least order a charger and a battery

WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT • We suggest that you use that you use WordPress • It’s free (open source) • It’s good for blogging & archiving the blog • It’s a good content management system (CMS) • There is great support for WordPress on YouTube as well as the WordPress tutorials • Mr. Kohn’s web hosting site supports and administers WordPress • If you want to have a website (and you do!!) email Mr. Kohn: dekohn@memphis.edu

  9. WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT (CONTINUED) • Themes (standard layout and formatting) • Default is: Twenty Eleven 1.3 • Mr. Kohn uses: blend1.5 • Other themes can searched ‘wordpress themes free’ • Email Mr. Kohn with the theme name and URL and he will upload your selected theme

WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT(CONTINUED) • Initial Setup Demonstrations • Header (top) Title (site & tagline) (Settings-General) • Time zone, time/date format) (Settings-General) • Blog (Post & Settings-Writing) • Uploading pictures/URL (Post-upload/Insert & Media Settings) • Header (top) picture (Appearance-Themes-Header-upload) Note: the problems uploading pictures and files during the training session was due to a setup problem for WordPress; it will be setup properly for all websites that Mr. Kohn installs.
