  1. October 19, 2010 Sponsored by Story PTA STORYTELLER PTA Tonight!! Family Night at the Book Fair 5:30 - 7:00 PM Multi-Purpose Room THEN . . . PTA Drug Awareness Night 7:00 - 8:00 P.M. PTA will be hosting Drug Awareness Night. Due to the content of the program, this is a parent only meeting and child care for school age children will be provided for this event.   Principal’s Corner United Through Reading Our 6th grade AIM students would like to invite you to participate in a great opportunity to honor our service men and women.  They will be collecting books for the United Through Reading program throughout the year.  The books will be donated to the USO at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.    Military personnel who are being deployed will be video-taped reading the donated books, and the books with the videos will be sent to their families.   Overview of Program: Founded in 1989, United Through Reading is a nonprofit 501 (c)(3) public benefit organization.  Their mission is to unite families facing physical separation by facilitating the bonding experience of reading aloud together. More than one million American children are separated from one or both parents due to military deployment. Separation from a parent is one of life’s most stressful events for children, affecting their sense of security, their relationships, and their ability to learn.  This program helps bring far-away family members back home for a little while each day.  More information about the United Through Reading program and ideas for possible book donations can be found at http://www.unitedthroughreading.org.  Our first collection will take place the week of our PTA Book Fair (Oct. 18-22).  The book fair provides a perfect opportunity for your child to purchase and donate a book for this wonderful cause.  Collection boxes will be located outside of the library and in the multipurpose room where the book fair is taking place.  Thank you for your support of our service men and women and our 6th grade AIM service project.   Judith Coffman, Principal Story’s Star Volunteers Thank you all so much for your willingness to share your time with the students and staff!  It is very much appreciated.  I would like to recognize our Star Volunteers for the month of September:   Beth Knoll, Elizabeth LeBlanc and Tane Benter.  Thank you for your outstanding service!
