  2. Genetic Counseling Genetic tests are done by analyzing small samples of blood or body tissues. They determine whether you, your partner, or your baby carry genes for certain inherited disorders * Genetic counseling is the process of: • - evaluating family history and medical records • - ordering genetic tests • - evaluating the results of this investigation • helping parents understand and reach • decisions about what to do next

  3. Genetic testing Genetic testing, like most technologies leading up to the singularity, has its pros and cons. This makes parents feel better knowing they don’t have to pass on life threatening conditions to their children ( offspring ), they might be carriers, but that doesn’t mean their children have to be. Genetic testing is when a blood sample is taken, which is then studied in order to detect the mutant gene. As part of testing, a close family member preferably a parent will also test blood. Patient’s DNA is analyzed to detect the disease. Testing a family member may also be important if the patient’s DNA is unusual in some way.

  4. Designer Babies Designing babies can cost a lot of money, it sounds very interesting ! What if people don’t get what they want, what would they do then ? Would they keep the baby, or kill it just because it didn’t turn out the way they expected ?

  5. Pro’s & Con’s • Genetic testing may be beneficial in determining whether or not you have a disease or are likely to develop a disease over the course of your life. By examining your DNA, geneticists can look at variations in DNA sequences called genetic markers that indicate a person's predisposition to developing an inherited disease that may run in their family. Geneticists may be able to see how likely you are to develop cancer years before the disease takes over your body. The pros and cons of genetic testing depend on how a person will benefit from the test results. If a genetic test reveals a strongly predictive negative result, a person probably will not develop a disease and frequent doctor visits and medical testing can be eliminated along with endless worry and uncertainty
