One-Step Word Problems (write AND solve an equation for each): 1) Last week Patrick ran 25 more miles than Chris. Patrick ran 36 miles. How many miles did Chris run? • 2) Frank swims eight laps less than Sabrina. Frank swims 27 laps. How many laps does Sabrina swim? • 3) Stephanie collected 5 more cans than Jose’. Stephanie collected 32 cans. How many cans did Jose’ collect? 4) How many boxes of cereal can you buy with $38.50 if one box costs $3.50? • How many pencils can you buy with $7.30 if one pencil costs $0.10 • (10 cents)? 6) Avery won some money in a contest, and decides to split the money equally among herself and two friends (how kind). If her share is $73.21, how much did she originally win? 7) Grandpa Joe decided to split his baseball card collection equally among his seven grandchildren. If each child receives 15 cards, how many cards were in his collection to begin with?

In how many months will this occur? 5) You buy jeans for $35 and three hats. You spend a total of $56. How much did each hat cost? 6) At the movies, Mary buys one jumbo popcorn for $8.00 and three sodas. She spends a total of $21.50. How much did each soda cost? • 7) How old am I if 80 reduced by twice my age is 22?
