  1. Receiving Honors RewardMT 10:40-42 This is a new series on how to attract God’s favor and blessing. When we learn to honor – we receive honor’s reward. “Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.” 1Peter 2:17

  2. “Today’s generation has done a great job at ruining the concept of honor. We have confused it with respect. We think honor is something we can withhold from someone based on their performance. Based on how much we like them, but that is not Biblical honor. In the Bible honor is weight, honor is value and it is something freely given. It’s time for honorology.” Steven Furtick, Elevation Church

  3. “There is an important lesson for the young and old in this; we don’t want to merely obey God; we want to catch his heart. It is then we will glimpse the wisdom behind the directives, and not just see them as laws.” John Bevere

  4. God is a Rewarder. (Heb 11:6) God introduced himself to Abraham as his; “shield, your exceeding great reward.” (Gen 15:1) God rewards those he is pleased with, which are those who heed his council. (PS 19:9-11) We know that according to scripture all Christians will appear before the judgment seat of Christ to receive the rewards for our labor. (2Cor 5:8-10; 1Cor 3:14-15). However, there are rewards we receive in this life as well.

  5. “For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.” (1Tim 4:8)

  6. 2. God Rewards Honor. There is an authority structure in the kingdom that begins with the Father and flows down through every level of society. Each level carries it’s own reward.

  7. MT 10:40-42 Without changing the meaning, allow me to insert the word honor everywhere the words receives and gives occurs in these verses. “He who honors you honors Me, and he who honors Me honors Him who sent Me. He who honors a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward. And he who honors a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever honors one of these little ones with only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward.”

  8. There are four levels of honor mentioned here and each level has it’s own reward. • The Father • Leaders – those above us • Righteous – our peers and equals • Little ones – those we are responsible to care for

  9. This is the honor principle in scripture – 1Sam 2:30 To honor is to value, to consider precious or weighty. The opposite is to not show respect or value, to treat as common, ordinary or minimal. Honor is shown in attitude, actions, thoughts.

  10. 3. Receiving a Full Reward. “Look to yourselves, that we do not loose those things we worked for, but that we may receive a full reward.” 2JN 8

  11. There are three levels of reward when we honor others. • Full Honor – those who value & respect others • Partial Honor – those who are selective • No Honor – those who treat God & others without honor

  12. Honors Reward • Partial Reward – MK 6:1-6 • No Reward – LK 5:17-26 • Full Reward – LK 7:1-10
