  2. Agenda • Data Loss Prevention RFP • Secunia Issues and Resolutions • Apple License Information • Contract Issue Resolution: Click-through Agreements • Volume Purchase Plan • Lecture Tools • Microsoft and Adobe • Upcoming Renewals • SPSS & McAfee: Renewal or Retirement? • SigmaPlot • SAS • JMP • Maple • SLS Request Fulfillment Overview

  3. OCIO DLP RFP • RFP released 8/19 • 3 vendors invited in for Proof of Concept • One is complete • The second is finishing right now • The third vendor is setting up now • OCIO Security has a team working on this • Decisions made by a high-level team representative of major university areas

  4. Secunia Issues and Resolutions • License Issue • Some pilot/test users were receiving an error regarding an inadequate number of licenses • Appears to be resolved in the near term • Seeking additional licenses to ensure this doesn’t happen again • Departments using the software seem pleased with it • Expansion to additional departments this month

  5. Apple Click Through’s • A new addendum to our CPP was signed • Revises terms on all software agreements, including click-through terms, such as: • iTunes agreements • MacOS X agreements • VPP Facilitator agreements • And future agreements we may encounter • Communication provided by OCIO to departmental CIO’s with details

  6. Apple Volume Purchase Plan • The VPP allows for the purchase of many Apps at up to a 50% discount. • VPP enrollment includes a blanket agreement for all Apple Apps on campus • Creates three roles within the institution: • Program Manager: Enrolls institution and authorized to run the program • Program Facilitator: Knows what needs to be purchased and requests PO’s and distributes funding • End Users: Individuals receiving codes from Program Facilitators or Mangers

  7. Apple Volume Purchase Plan

  8. Apple Volume Purchase Plan • Items to be worked out: • Who owns the software? Is this a departmental or University decision? • What sort of training is required to be a Program Facilitator? Does OCIO provide this? • How do we coordinate bulk purchases • Since non-personal e-mail accounts are required for Program Facilitators, is there a process for creating those? • OCIO Site Licensing is working on a meeting with Internal Audit to address some of these questions

  9. Lecture Tools • OCIO eLearning is working on finding funding for this product • Builds interaction into presentations • Similar to Clickers/TurningPoint, but more robust, and allows individuals to use their own devices • http://www.lecturetools.com

  10. Microsoft & Adobe • Insight now in eStores • Information on Microsoft Open Licenses available • OCIO Site Licensing and OSU Purchasing are finalizing arguments for broader licenses • Microsoft CoreCAL Servers • Adobe Professional • Seeking any other identifiable value we can add. So far we have examined: • Site-wide MS SQL licensing • Site-wide Adobe CS suite licensing • Student licensing of Adobe Pro

  11. SPSS Renewal or Retirement • OCIO Site Licensing and OSU Purchasing are in discussions with SPSS • OSU Purchasing has brought up consolidation of spend on IBM products, targeted SPSS as a potential cost savings • Discussions appear positive from the IBM side: “We’ll work with you on price.” • SPSS usage is declining dramatically on OSU campuses (especially branch campuses) • OCIO needs information about usage: discussing a survey for departments

  12. McAfee Renewal or Retirement • OCIO Site Licensing is reviewing McAfee for possible retirement • OCIO currently licenses only the Anti-Virus/Anti-Spyware portion of McAfee • Comparable free products exist for this specific use case (Microsoft Forefront, Sophos for Mac, ClamX AV, etc.) • OSUMC is reviewing retaining McAfee. Are other areas?

  13. SigmaPlot renewal • New license file received, available • Price for renewal is $16/copy

  14. SAS Renewal • SAS PO cut • Invoice paid • SAS is now campus-wide for fac/staff and students! • Price change: • $33/copy for Workstation • $350/processor for Servers • Codes expected any day now • 9.3 will be generally available shortly after that, including to students

  15. JMP Renewal • New JMP contract signed by Purchasing • Extends JMP to all branch campuses • No increase in cost • PO cut this morning • Codes should be available well before expiration

  16. Maple Renewal • Renewal due in December • Quote received • Price went up 3.5% • Negotiating with supplier to resolve that

  17. SLS Request Fulfillment • OCIO Site Licensing has hired consultants to improve the workflow of the download site. Key improvements sought include: • Automation of the checkout process • Elimination of paper agreements • Increased access to packages via download • Improved security • Ability to turn on downloads for specific users if necessary • Ability to view distribution records • Ability to tie software to a department • Large file download and distribution

  18. Questions/Comments • No meeting Dec. 30

  19. Microsoft CoreCAL Server Site License • Includes: • Windows servers (including HPC), and Windows External Connector (not RDS external connector!) • Sharepoint servers, including Sharepoint Server for Internet Sites • Exchange servers and Exchange Standard External Connector • Lync servers and Lync Standard External Connector • Systems Center Config Manager server and server MLs
