  2. MVP Mission/Vision Mission Military & Veterans Programs is here to assist veterans and their families to achieve academic and personal success. Vision Our vision is to be the university of choice for military personnel, veterans, and their families. Military & Veterans programs will assist the students it serves in a seamless transition from military to civilian life, support and encourage campus and community engagement, and help provide a positive experience through degree completion and on to a successful future.

  4. Texas Tech’s GreenZone Training What is it ? Advocate training for advisors, staff, and faculty designed to help campus staff: • See the demographics of the TTU veteran and dependent students. • Understand difficulties that service members may face in transition from the service to campus. • Know where to direct student veterans for additional support both on/off campus.

  5. Learning Outcomes for Phase I Attendees will be able to: • Describe the current veteran population at Texas Tech. • Recognize the benefits available to students. • Examine issues commonly experienced by student veterans. • Identify referral resources available for student veterans.

  6. Green Zone Sticker At the end of Green Zone Training Phase I, campus staff are given: • A TTU Green Zone T-Shirt! • Green ZoneMilitary Friendly Area of Operation” decals to displace in their office or area to show they are dedicated Texas TechGreen Zone Advocates!

  7. Green Zone Posters Advertising on Campus: • Posters advertising the Green Zone Program are displayed across campus inviting students and guests to look for faculty & staff displaying a Green Zone decal in their area. • Faculty and Staff can wear Green Zone shirts on Training days or Fridays!

  8. Green Zone Phases • Over 371 TTU Faculty and Staff, and over 40 students have completed the Green Zone Phase I Training program since its inception in Summer 2011. • Green Zone Training Phases II, and III were implemented in Fall 2012.

  9. Learning Objectives for Phase II Attendees will: • Have a basic overview of Veterans Educational Benefits. • Types of Programs offered at TTU • Eligibility/Awards of the most popular programs. • Have a basic understanding concerning Federal/State responsibilities for the school and VA Certifying Official. • Have a basic understanding concerning student and advisor responsibilities.

Learning Objectives for Phase III Attendees will be able to: • Learn about challenges and mental health concerns which student-veterans may experience at TTU. • Discover helping skills needed to communicate effectively with student-veterans. • Discuss possible scenarios and how to respond appropriately to student—veterans. • Identify referral options and how to encourage students-veterans to seek help.

  11. TTU Green Zone Training for your School Texas Tech has provided Green Zone training to the following schools: • South Plains College • Texas Woman’s University • Texas Tech Heath Sciences Center • Angelo State University
