  2. Food • In the Philippines rice and fish are the most important foods. Bibingka is a Christmas food that many people enjoy. And It is made with mochi, rice, and coconut. It is cooked on banana leaves. Menudo is a supper and made with pork, potato and tomato sauce. Halo halo is a good dessert. It is made out of ice-cream, milk, fruit, corn, rice and sweet beans.

  3. Clothing • Men wear barong tagalog which is an embroidered outer shirt worn untucked with collars. It has long sleeves with side slits made from Pina (Pineapple fibers). It is also made of jusi raw silk or ramie grass fibers. Women wear heavily starched butterfly-sleeved terno and matching long skirt.

  4. Homes/Shelter • Some shelters are made with wood or bricks. And some people live in a bahay kubo. Some of the people live with other people, members of their family.

  5. School/Educations • Schools are made with wood or bricks. The Philippine schools also teach the same things as here in Canada. • Military schools in Manila study the same subjects as those in public schools.

  6. Jobs • Many Filipinos have jobs like Americans. They work in stores, office, airports, banks and the stock market. Some work in factories making food products, furniture, clothing, cement, T.V. sets and stores.

  7. Transportation • Some people use jeeps to go to the church. And some other people use cars to go to work. But all of the people always ride in vans.

  8. Weather/Climates • In Philippines lots ofpeople get sweaty because the weather is sunny everyday. Sometimes it rains and people don’t have to water their plants.

  9. Money/Currency • In Philippines a peso is called a paper and pesos is called a coin and a paper currency is printed in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 500 pesos.

  10. Flag • In the Philippines the blue stripe on the flag stands for peace and the red stripe stands for bravery. The triangle represents equality of the Filipino people. The 3 stars stand for the 3 main regions. The 8 rays stand for the Philippine provinces.

  11. Language • Many Filipinos often use their regional languages in everyday life and when writing works of literature. Some of the most common regional language in the Philippines are Ilocano and Ilonggo which are spoken in Northern Luzon Hiligaynon and Visayan.
