  3. Library Mission Statement The mission of the Library is to provide library services now and in the future that will encourage and support a literate, enlightened and cultured community. This mission will be fulfilled by providing, to the greatest degree possible, free and equal access to knowledge, information and ideas through the Library’s resources and programs in a setting conducive to learning. Voted by the Belvedere-Tiburon Library Agency on November 3, 1997.

  4. Library Foundation The Belvedere-Tiburon Library Foundation fundraises to provide continuing support to the Belvedere-Tiburon Library.

  5. Today’s Belvedere-Tiburon Library Today’s Library boasts an extensive collection of resources in which books are truly a beginning. Works of fiction and nonfiction, periodicals, reference materials, films on DVD, music on CD, books on tape and CD, MP3 files, electronic books – it’s all here. And it’s growing everyday.

  7. Libraries are the new Starbucks • Across the country, a slowed economy is contributing to busier libraries. A recent Harris Poll shows 68 percent of Americans now have a library card, the greatest number since 1990 when the American Library Association began measuring usage. • The Harris Poll also found that 76 percent of Americans had visited a library within the past year, as compared with 65.7 percent in 2006. Usage of computers in libraries has increased about 17 percent.

Thanks to our Library volunteers! • Volunteers are involved in each of the library’s five departments - Reference, Circulation, Children’s, Technical Services, and Administration. • Volunteer participation is crucial for library operations. • The Library has more than200 volunteers working on the BTLF, in the library or served on one of the many committees: • Cataloging Assistant • Homebound Delivery • Shelving • Book mending and processing • Acquisitions and collection development • Internet Training - The Netsharks • Children’s Programming • Business resource organization • Program and events for all ages • Reference Desk Assistance • Data entry • Periodical organization • Art presentations • Fund raising

  14. Current Status • Conceptual designs, phase 1, developed • Building Committee recommended the Civic Center concept as the preferred location • The Library Agency approved the recommendation • Environmental impact draft report in review • Fund-raising strategies under consideration

Building Blocks • Increase size of the Children’s Room • Develop a Young Adult Room • Add storage space and office space • Enlarge program and community space • Add 4 group & quiet study areas • Technology training and access center • Local information and author collection • Maintenance work area & storage • Book donation sorting and sales area • Office and storage space • Café and book sale area

  16. A Place to Grow The 11,500 residents of Belvedere and Tiburon and their Tiburon Peninsula neighbors include many school-age children. Inspiring an interest in learning is vital to their futures and to their ability to contribute to their communities. There’s no better place to show them that learning can be a livelong adventure than their local library.
