  2. The world wide web is a very valuable tool for conducting research - There are many different search engines available that can link you to a wide variety of information

  5. Different Types of Search Engines - Crawler-Based Search Engine They create their listings automatically. They “crawl” or “spider” the web, then people search through what they have found. • An Example would be: Google www.google.com

  6. Different Types of Search Engines (continued) - Human-Powered Directories This type depends on humans for its listings. A person submits a short description of his page to the directory. A search therefore looks for matches only in the descriptions submitted. • An example would be: Open Directory Project www.dmoz.org

  7. Different Types of Search Engines (continued) • Hybrid Search Engines This type combines the other two types of search engines. This is the most common type of search engine found today. • An Example would be: Bing.com www.bing.com
