The Evolution of the Soccer Ball. Autumn Broyles. Tsu Chu. Throughout the Ts’in and Han Dynasties (255 BC-220 AD), Tsu Chu was played by the Chinese This was their version of soccer where they used strips of leather for the outside of the ball and stuffed it with animal fur. Pre-Medieval.

  2. Tsu Chu • Throughout the Ts’in and Han Dynasties (255 BC-220 AD), Tsu Chu was played by the Chinese • This was their version of soccer where they used strips of leather for the outside of the ball and stuffed it with animal fur

  3. Pre-Medieval • According to an old legend, a village would take a human skull and kick it the entire way to another village’s square • The other village would then try to return the skull to the first village’s square

  4. Medieval • People in the medieval times would use inflated pig bladders as a form of soccer ball • They would soon cover the bladders in leather to help keep it’s shape

  5. Charles Goodyear • 1836 • Patents vulcanized rubber • This means they would no longer have to use animal bladders • When they used animal bladders, the ball was very unpredictable as to which direction it would go • 1855 • Created the first vulcanized rubber soccer ball

  6. H. J. Lindon • Created the first inflatable rubber bladder in 1862 • Was inspired to do this because of the illnesses related to blowing up pig bladders • His own wife had died from lung disease associated with inflating several hundred pig bladders
