Dutch Hollow Trails: An Overview of Trail Features and Challenges

This presentation showcases the Dutch Hollow Trails map created for my Applied GIS class project at Salt Lake Community College. It features snapshots of various sections from the map and photos taken at marked areas along the trails. Each slide includes notes providing brief descriptions of the trails and their difficulty levels. Highlights include the easy Road Side Trail, the challenging Burnt Ridge, and the steep, intricate Barrel track. This guide aims to inform and entice trail enthusiasts to explore the diverse terrains of Dutch Hollow.

  1. Dutch Hollow Trails Clinton Peatross Salt Lake Community College Applied GIS Fall Semester 2011

  2. Class Presentation • This is my presentation of the Dutch Hollow Trails map that I created for our class project. • I have included several snap shots of different parts of the map, as well as several pictures taken at marked areas. I have also included notes on each slide about the depicted areas. These notes include a brief description of the trail and its difficulty.

  3. Road Side Trail • This is a new trail, low difficulty. Mostly flat, little incline.

  4. Roadside Trail A view to the North. Looking West. Looking North to Parking Lot.

  5. Cottontail Loop • The first part of this trail is an easy difficulty level. Once at the top of the hill it changes to moderate, as the trail narrows, it becomes quit steep, windy, and rocky.

  6. Cottontail Loop Looking North to Burnt Ridge Looking North from bottom trail. Looking South from top of trail. Rest area.

  7. Lookout Trail • This trail is mostly level with several rock outcroppings. At the end of the loop to the South is a look out point where the whole Wasatch Valley is visible from the top of the ridge.

  8. Burnt Ridge • This trail is rated as difficult because of the steep climb up the ridge as well as large rock out- cropping's all along the track. It also ties into the Aqua-duct trail to the north.

  9. Burnt Ridge Rest area. Looking South to Sage Loop. Looking South from top of ridge.

  10. Aqueduct Trail • The Aqueduct trail is a half moderate and half difficult trail. The moderate leg ties into the Cottontail Loop from the South- East, and into the Barrel to the Southwest. The difficult areas are very narrow, rocky, and steep.

  11. The Barrel • The Barrel is a very difficult track that should have been called the Roller Coaster. The whole track is quite steep and narrow with many hair-pin turns at steep angles and high speeds.

  12. Dutch Road Trail • This trail follows the Dutch Hollow road to the beginning of The Aqueduct trail to the North.
