  7. Department of History Budget Information and Requests HIST is presently conducting a replacement search for a faculty member separating before the start of the 2013-14 academic year. The new hire will be an assistant professor, tenure-track with a budgeted salary of $49,000.

Department of Political Science Budget Information and Requests The POLS Department Chairperson notes the following: Since FY 2004, POLS has had a 30% reduction in its budget when adjusted for inflation, a 16% reduction in faculty, a 29% reduction in hours worked by student assistants because of increases in the minimum wage, and a 25% reduction in majors. Additionally, core sections taught by adjunct faculty have been eliminated except in special circumstances.

  17. Department of Psychology Budget Information and Requests PSYC has an offer pending to a sixth faculty member to start in the fall of 2013. The new hire will be an assistant professor, tenure-track and make $53,000. PSYC would like to make the Clinic Director position permanent and full-time. The PSYC Department Chairperson notes the following: Since FY 1999, PSYC has had a 14% reduction in its budget when adjusted for inflation, a 20% increase in faculty and a 12% increase in the number of majors.

  22. Department of Sociology Budget Information and Requests SOCL conducted a search for a new faculty member in 2012-13 which did not result in a hire. Permission to search again in 2013-14 is strongly requested. The line is a replacement for a faculty member who departed at the end of 2011-12, and the budgeted salary is $49,224. SOCL has received a $5,400 scholarship donation from Mr. Jerry Warren. Mr. Warren is a retired engineer who audited a SOCL course and was very impressed with the department. He believes that the social sciences are incredibly important for students, even though he never had a social science course when he was in college. The SOCL Department Chairperson notes the following: In FY 2003, the SOCL M&O budget was $5,000. Today, ten years later, the SOCL M&O budget has decreased to $3,488.

  27. Department of Foreign Languages Budget Information and Requests FORL has an offer pending to a new faculty member who will teach German. The new hire will be an assistant professor, tenure-track. It is a replacement line for a faculty member who retired in 2012 and the budgeted salary is $49,000. There is a search in progress for a new chairperson in FORL. Department proficiency exams are given at the beginning of every semester and generate a $35 per test income to the department. FORL needs to replace broken equipment in the analog language lab so that it is functional until such time when a digital lab can be funded.

  32. Department of English Budget Information and Requests ENGL is presently searching for three instructor positions (one permanent; two one-year appointments) to start in the fall of 2013. ENGL has received permission to search for three assistant professor, tenure-track lines in 2013-14. The ENGL Department chairperson notes and has requested the following: A salary review examining pay equity for the English Secretary II. The chairperson notes the size and complexity of the department when compared to others. 12 new computers to replace old, malfunctioning, and slow ones. Estimated cost: $11,760 An increase in the departmental travel budget to $6000. There are six newly hired junior faculty members in the department who will need to attend conferences to achieve tenure and promotion. From 2009 until the end of the 2012-13 academic year, ENGL has or expects to lose faculty members totaling $502,890 in salary. Only two additional faculty members have been hired and are continuing in 2013-14 at a salary cost of $98,000. The difference between salary losses and gains is a savings of $404, 890.

  33. Department of English MSU Writing Center Requests The Writing Program Administrator for MSU, who is also a faculty member in ENGL, has requested the following for FY 2014: Total budget needed to provide sufficient support for student writers: $41,000 1. 3 stipends for third-year graduate students to provide mentoring and on-line tutoring ($8496 x 3): $25,488 2. 5 paid undergraduate lines (8.25/hour x 10 hours/week x 26 weeks/academic year): $10,725 3. 4 paid positions for summer tutors (8.25/hour x 10hours/week x 8 weeks): $2,640 4. Travel money for undergraduate tutors to present research at South Central Writing Association Annual Conference: $2,000

  34. Department of English Bea Wood Hall Writing Computer Lab The faculty member in ENGL responsible for the Writing Computer Lab in Bea Wood Hall has requested the following for FY 2014: 1.13 licenses of Adobe Cs6 design @ $222.18 each= $2,888 2. Educational Apps for iPads: $575.00
