Enhance math skills in Algebra I with a focus on defining relations, functions, domains, ranges, and data analysis. Implement cooperative learning, jigsaw puzzles, journal writing, and random selection techniques. Consistent assessments and targeted remediation ensure student success. Enrichment opportunities include real-world modeling and linear equations. Test consistency and retesting options help students master key objectives.

Communications • Teacher sends objectives to parent • Algebra IB Unit 1 • Objective 1 – Define relation, function, domain, and range. • Objective 2 – Be able to determine if a relation is a function given ordered pairs or a table. • Objective 3 – Be able to determine if a relation is a function given a graph (including 2 part piecewise) • Objective 4 - Be able to identify the domain and range of a relation given ordered pairs or a table. • Objective 5 – Be able to identify the domain and range of a relation given a graph (should be able to use inequality signs and interval notation; include 2 part piecewise graphs as well) • Objective 6 – Analyze a set of data for the existence of a pattern by completing a table or sequence. • Objective 7 – Be able to express a pattern as an equation given a table.
Strategies • Teach objectives using various techniques • Cooperative Learning strategies • Jigsaw puzzle for vocabulary • Four corners • Journal writing on understanding of a concept • Selecting students at random • Posting ideas on paper at different locations around the room • Use of document camera to give notes • Worksheets
Consistency • Common Assessment • Algebra IB Unit 1 Objective 1 - 4 questions and 10 points total Objective 2 - 5 questions and 10 points total Objective 3 - 5 questions and 10 points total Objective 4 - 5 questions and 10 points total Objective 5 - 5 questions and 10 points total Objective 6 - 5 questions and 10 points total Objective 7 - 3 questions and 10 points total Second chance to work on objectives that weren’t mastered.
Success • Remediation • Other work for each objective that has not been mastered • A chance to learn and to master • Algebra IB Unit 1 examples: • Make a set of flashcards for all of the vocabulary terms. • Watch a video on determining domain, range, and whether a relation is a function. • Complete a study guide on Linear Functions and Graphs • Complete the worksheet entitled Introduction to Functions • Watch the PowerPoint entitled Patterns
Success • Enrichment • Special topics to enhance learning • Opportunities to delve deeper into a concept • Algebra IB Unit 1 Examples: • Complete the Domain and Range Enrichment Worksheet • Complete Modeling Real World Scenarios Worksheet • Complete the Linear Equation Worksheet • Geometry uses Enrichment Tests as an option
Consistency • Test B – a second chance assessment for all students • Each test has the same number of questions • Each test has the same directions • Each test has the same look and feel • Only retest in the areas not mastered • Test C – a third chance for the students that have completed all homework and remediation
