  3. The main opponents of the Tsar • The Liberals • The Social Democrats, in 1903 splits into: • Mensheviks & • Bolsheviks • The Socialist Revolutionaries

  4. The Liberals • Mainly the educated classes and some nobility • Wanted elections and a parliament • Supported civil rights

  5. Social Democrats • Wanted to create a socialist state • Marxist ideas • Split over tactics to bring about the revolution

  6. Socialist Revolutionaries • Mainly Peasants • Wanted to violently overthrow the Tsar and his government • Wanted to redistribute the land to be farmed collectively.
