  1. Writing a conclusion As easy as One Two three

  2. Think back to your introduction…

  3. …and flip it!

  4. Revisit the thesis • Revisit ≠ restate • Avoid the cut and paste problem • Same main ideas • Change vocabulary • Varied word choice

  5. Example #1 • Banning junk food on campus would not make kids healthier. Becomes • Without junk food on campus there is no guarantee that students will be eating better.

  6. Summarize your main point • Review your body paragraphs • Summarize and restate your topic sentences • Avoid straight repetition • Combine two or three ideas into one or two compound sentences • NO NEW IDEAS!!!!!!! • If you didn’t discuss it in the essay, do not include it here.

  7. Example #2 • If I could go back in time, I would bring penicillin. Becomes When going to the past, penicillin is the one modern invention with which I could make a difference.

  8. Wrap it up! • Leave your reader/grader with one last point. • Drive it home • You may choose to end with a quote if you didn’t use one as a hook • For persuasion – consider a call to action • Demand that your audience now do something

  9. Summarized main points from essay Example Thesis revisited Without junk food on campus there is no guarantee that students will be eating better. They may still bring junk from home, or simply go off campus to get their fix. Students may not eat at all, and no one can argue that no food throughout the day is a healthy choice. If students are to get healthier, it needs to start with education; leave their food choices alone for now. Wrap up – final thought for grader
