The LCC(R) program aims to develop a mobile, self-sustaining maritime platform with advanced C4ISR capabilities, supporting joint force commanders at sea. Anticipated for initial procurement in FY-12, the program has allocated $52.4M for research and preliminary design from FY08-13 and is expected to cost around $2B per ship. With the current ships being operational for 33-40 years, the LCC(R) will replace aging vessels like USS Blue Ridge and USS Mount Whitney. It aims to leverage LPD-17 design for integration with Joint C4I systems.
