  4. Class Structure This class is designed for students with an intermediate-advanced level of English 이 수업은 중급-고급 영어 레벨의 수준으로 진행됩니다.

  5. Areas of Improvement • English speaking(related to business – job interviews, vocabulary, idioms, expressions) – so come to class ready to speak!!! • English listening(teacher, partners, clips) • English writing (cover letters, resumesand presentation) • English reading • Knowledge about Western business culture • I am not teaching you business knowledge (investing in bitcoin) but the English related to business practices

Topics Some topics include: • job interview skills, job seeking strategies • applications • cover letters • resumes • interview skills • workplace vocabulary • advertising • branding • ethics • bargaining and trading • graphs and trends • investing risk • smart consumer practices • high & low context culture • globalization

  7. Marks Attendance / Participation 10% Assignments 40% (Cover letter – 10%, Resume – 10%) (Presentation – 20%) Midterm Exam 25% Final Exam 25%

  8. Attendance/Participation (10%) Attendance is mandatory (except for the first week of classes) so that students are in class and participating. If you are not here, you cannot participate and therefore your mark will be lower. For each class absent the student will get -1% If you have an excuse you have 2 weeks to give the professor an excuse note. It is the student’s responsibility to give the excuse note to the professor. CNU Policy (김영란범): If a student is absent for over 25% of the class time, the student will receive an automatic fail (F grade).

  9. Attendance/Participation (10%) Students who oftencome late to class will also have a lower mark. If you are over 10 minutes late (-0.5%) If you are absent for half the class, that will count as an absent (-1%) If your previous class is far away, please inform the teacher. If you are absent for a quiz or exam, it is the student’s responsibility to contact the professor and set up a date for a makeup quiz/exam.

  10. Assignments (40%) There are 2written assignments There is 1 speaking assignment 10%- Cover letter (1st session – 10.21) 10%- Resume (1st session – 11.11) 20% - Group presentation (2ndsession – 12.2~12.9)

Exams- 50% Midterm Exam (25%) Monday, October 28 – class time Final Exam (25%) Monday, December 16 – class time • Both exams are written • Format: short answers, long answers, definitions, vocabulary, practical application These dates are subject to change based on Chonnam National University scheduling.

  12. 상대평가 Exchange students, transfer students and graduate school students are not marked according to the 상대평가 system. If you are an exchange, transfer or graduate school student, you will be marked according to your final score. 교환학생과 대학원생들에게는 상대평가가 적용되지 않습니다.

  15. Course Reader • The course reader is available in the Humanities Building copy shop or you can download and print your own copy from my website – www.safenglish.wordpress.com • The ppts and clips we use in class will also be available on the website.

Class Rules • Come to class / try not to be late • Bring the course reader to class • Participate (try to talk) • Try to use English in class • Put your cellphone on manner mode • You’re allowed to eat, just clean up • Assignments are due during class time • If you are falling behind in class and cannot keep up please tell me as soon as possible. Please don’t tell me during the final weeks of class that you are having problems, come talk to me at the soonest possible time.
