Collaborative Services The Centralization Process at Duke
In a bid to provide reliable and standardized network services akin to electrical power, Duke University, led by Michael Pickett, initiated a centralization process on April 11, 1996. This effort involves gathering needs and best practices from various schools and departments through a range of forums and working groups. Topics discussed include enterprise systems, calendaring, content management, and digital archiving. Feedback from faculty is vital, reflected in their diverse opinions. The overarching aim is to foster collaboration and trust within the Duke community while enhancing IT services.

Review and Centralization Process • Variety of approaches to gathering needs, approaches, best practices from schools and departments and putting together plans and next steps • Inputs: ITAC, Academic Tech Committee, CLAC, Monthly Extended Staff – short topics • Process: Explorations, Future Forums, Solutions and Best Practices Forums - Wide invitations • Sometimes resulting in: Working groups, or just minutes and next steps • Careful choice about what to absorb in the center • High level support for the process
