  6. Civics – What is it? • Civics comes from the Latin term Civis - established by the Greeks (590 BC) - adopted by the Romans • Roman Conquerors - used the term citizen to distinguish between conquered people and those living in Rome

  7. The Romans • Roman Citizens - were men or boys • Responsibilities - right to vote - say in government - pay taxes - attending assembly meetings - serving in the army

  8. Being an Effective Citizen • You will be placed in a group. • Your group will be assigned a trait of an effective citizen - determine what the trait actually means (translate it into your own words) - describe what this would look like in society - provide examples that support your view on this characteristic (trait) • Share Out your answers – Museum Walk (of sorts)
