History Founded in 2003 by a Swedish entrepreneur NiklasZennstrom and a Danish entrepreneur Janus Friis The software was developed by the same people who were behind the peer-to-peer file sharing software, Kazaa August 2003 was when Skype was first released Headquartered in Luxembourg Partly owned by eBay
