  2. In Alberta, from a legal point of view, a gay or lesbian couple shares the same rights as a heterosexual couple.

  3. The process and procedure of estate planning in Canada for gay and lesbian couples are no different. A more relevant factor may be whether or not the couple has children. 

  4. What if the couple has kids? Acouple with adult children can appoint one or more of them as alternate representatives.

  5. What if the couple has kids? Any of the children may inherit any of the properties appointed by their parents.

  6. What if the couple has no kids? A childless couple may appoint adult nieces and nephews, or even younger adult friends, as alternate executors for the wills.

  7. What if the couple has no kids? They can also appoint alternate attorneys for the powers of attorney, and alternate representatives for the personal directives.
