  2. Picture Dictionary In addition to your typed words with definitions and parts of speech complete a picture dictionary in booklet form. Each word must have a colorful illustration clearly representing what the word means. Words must be in alphabetic order. Add guide words at the top to identify the words on each page. Must include a front cover and a back cover with a description of what’s inside.

  3. Story using your words Create a fictional narrative using all your words. Your story should have a beginning, middle, and end. The story should be at least 5 paragraphs in length. All paragraphs need 4-6 sentences each. The story needs to include elements of characters, setting, problem/outcome, and other major events.

  4. Play using your words Create a fictional play using all your words. Your play should have a beginning, middle, and end. Your play should include at least 3 characters (and must be written as a script) Your script should include actions as well (usually written in parentheses). The story needs to include elements of characters, setting, problem/outcome, and other major events.

  5. Poster Large poster demonstrating your words (18” x 11” or bigger) Demonstrate understanding of your words and their definitions. Poster needs to have a creative theme (don’t just write the words with their definitions). Should include pictures and be colorful. Most parts of poster should be large enough to see/read from 6 feet away.

  6. Powerpoint Create a project in Microsoft PowerPoint. Each word should have at least one slide. Slides must have colorful backgrounds or include colored clipart images. Animation is okay, but no sound Must demonstrate an understanding of your words in the PowerPoint presentation.

  7. Game Create a board or card game using your words and their meanings that can be played by at least 2 players. Must include a set of typed rules for playing the game. All materials must be produced (board, cards, tokens, game pieces, etc.) Must take more than 5 total turns to win. Should be colorful and have a theme.

  8. Prefix/Root/Suffix Investigation For each word identify the root word Identify the country of origin of the root word For each word, write two new words with the same root Identify any prefixes and suffixes as part of your vocabulary words (at least 6, if none, find words with the same root and add a suffix or prefix to create a new word) Choose two of your words to change a prefix or suffix and explain how the change affects the words’ meanings.

  9. Crossword Puzzle and Word Search Create a crossword puzzle using all your words. Provide clues for each word, and a word bank. Also create a word search using all your words Create an alphabetical word bank for the word search. Provide separate answer keys for both puzzles.

  10. Song or Rap Create a song or rap using your words The song should demonstrate your understanding of the meaning of your vocabulary words. Your song/rap can be presented in the form of written lyrics, or a digital recording Songs/raps must be school appropriate! Lyrics should be a minimum of 15 lines, recording should be a minimum of 30 seconds

  11. Quiz Create a quiz with your words and their meanings. Should be at least 12 questions long. A mix of at least two formats (matching, T/F, fill in the blank, multiple choice) Must be typed. Include a separate answer key.

  12. Letter Write a letter to a famous person, someone you know, an author, or a magazine using your vocabulary words. Must be written in correct format (heading, greeting, body, closing) Body must be at least three paragraphs. Use of words in letter must demonstrate your understanding of the meanings. Include an addressed envelope with the letter.

  13. Newspaper Article Write an article using your vocabulary words (about any topic). Must be at least three paragraphs long. Include a relevant, interesting title. Use of words in article must demonstrate your understanding of the meanings. Include a photo or illustration with your article.

  14. Antonyms/Synonyms Investigation For each word, find two synonyms. For each word, find two antonyms. Present your words, synonyms, and antonyms in a table or chart. Write sentences using each of your vocabulary words. Then write sentences using one antonym for each word.
