  8. 1972 – Union Carbide sets up a plant for producing Sevin (pesticide). 1982 – First death due to phosgene leak. 1984 – 40 tonnes of MIC leaks on the night of Dec 2nd - 3rd and kills between 3000 to 8000 people. 2004 – 20 years later, 150,000 people continue to suffer from the gas exposure.

  16. Water is precious in Bhopal • Toxic waste has been lying around the plant for 20 years contaminating the ground water around the factory. • Water delivered by the municipality has very low pressure.

  25. Lots of hospitals – chaotic treatment. • Blind hysterectomy suggested in gynecological problems. • Heavy use of sedatives and its likes. • All studies by ICMR stopped in 1992.

Sambhavna (Compassion; Hope) • Born in 1995 to treat the gas survivors through a combination of traditional and modern medicine. • Research, data collection, organizing, educating. • Verbal Autopsy: An emotionally painful process of collecting information about a deceased person by interviewing relatives.
