  1. Immune System

  2. What is the Immune System? The Immune System is a system that protects against disease. The Immune System includes: the appendix, lymph nodes, spleen, skin, thymus, and tonsils.

  3. What does the Immune System do??? The Immune System has a set of functions that it uses. The functions also could be called “The Lines of Defense”. The First Line of Defense is the skin. The Second is Phagotic white blood cells, antimicrobial proteins, and the inflammatory response. The Third Line is the lymphocytes and antibodies.

  4. What is the Immune System Composed of? Appendix- this contains a mass of white blood cells. Lymph Node- host white blood cells that fight off bacteria. Spleen- holds lymphocytes, removes all old red blood cells, and hold reserves of iron. Skin- protects the others organs underneath it. Thymus-secretes messengers for the immune system. Tonsils-trap and prevent. Lymphocytes-type of white blood cell. There re two different types: B lymphocytes and T lymphocytes.

  5. How do they link between organs? The skin and tonsils prevent invaders. When and if anything gets by these two the Immune response backup is there to help trap and fight off. The thymus helps develop white blood cells. Appendix, lymph nodes, and spleen send out white blood cells to invader.

  6. Linking between Systems The Endocrine System- sends out signals to secrete or develop white blood cells when a foreign body is present. Cardiovascular System- Blood delivered to the problem sites. The Nervous System-sends signals to the Immune System that there is an invader present.
