  6. Slonim Slonim was founded in the 11th century in a picturesque place where the river Issa flows into the river Shchara. This is one of the most ancient and beautiful towns of Belarus. The Slonim region is located in the south of Grodno oblast. eters. As of January 2006, there were 72,000 people living in the region (of them 51,400 in the town of Slonim).

  7. Slonim is located in the south-eastern part of Grodno region on the Shchara River. It is an administrative centre of Slonim district. Its population is 51000 people. It’s a small town but it has many places of interests.

  8. The town has a considerable number of architectural monuments and a rich historic and cultural heritage. The towns history is reflected in the exhibits of the Museum of local lore named after I.Stabrovsky. It is one of the oldest museums in Slonim. The museum was opened on September 20 , 1929. There are 5000 exhibits. Nowadays it’s situated in Lenin Square, 1. There are two sections: a natural section and a historical section.

  9. St. Andrew’s Church The present brick church was built in the 18th century in the late baroque style. It has a splendid facade emphasized by the moldings and pilasters, two small towers express the building’s fantasy and lightness.

  10. The Bernadine's cathedral. • It was founded in 1664-1670.There was a fire in 1739. But then it was repaired. It is one of the most beautiful places of interest in Slonim

  11. On October 6, 2007 Slonim celebrated its 755th anniversary. By that time Slonim had been greatly reconstructed and now you can have a wonderful rest, sitting on a comfortable bench and enjoying a picturesque view in the centre of our town.

  12. Don’t miss the chance to visit the highest cathedral in Slonim. It is Svyato-Uspensky cathedral.

  13. There are many flowers and trees in Slonim. So Slonim is considered to be one of the greenest towns in Belarus.There are also many picturesque places here. Forests occupy 34,8 % of the territory of the region. The largest woods are conifer and spruce forests, birth and oak groves. There is a botanical reserve of wild medicinal plants, two landscape geomorphologic reserves, and 13 natural monuments.

  15. After that you must visit the House of Culture – our theater. And if you are lucky you will see one of its performances. You will be full of emotions. There is a disco, a theatre with two big halls, a bar and a billiard room in this building.

  16. Troitsky cathedral • You can see many wonderful Gods images here. It is a visible place in the landscape of Slonim. The cathedral was built in 1639 -1645

  17. Here is the house of Yanka Kupala. It is one of the most important places in Slonim. Some years ago there was a library of Yanka Kupala in this building.

  18. Walk through the central park which is located on the bank of the river Schara – the longest river in Slonim. There are many rivers in Slonim: Shchara, Grivda, Bereza, Issa, Zelvyanka.

  19. You can have a good rest on the beach of Labazovskya lake. You can play volleyball, lie in the sun, swim and bathe. You mustn't be afraid of your life because there is a rescue party on the beach.

  20. This is another important and historical place in Slonim – Puslovsky’s stable. That complex was built in the 19th century. Now there is a restaurant and a disco.

  21. This is the famous Puslovsky’s estate. It was built in the 19th century. Nowadays this house is the house of Culture.

  22. There are two lions in front of the estate at both sides.

  23. Five kilometers from the town there is the village of Zhirovichy, known since the second half of the 15th century. The modern Zhirovichy with its Uspensky Cloister and Minsk Religious Academy and Seminary is considered to be the centre of Orthodoxy of Belarus and the icon of Zhirovichy Mother Christ is well-known far beyond the borders of the Republic.

  24. This is another important place in Slonim. This monument was dedicated to the second World War (1941).
