  3. Philosophy • It is my personal goal to encourage each student to achieve to his or her highest potential in a classroom where students feel valued. www.mrharbaugh.com

  4. Curriculum • This is one of a small number of classes throughout the state of Florida developing a new 7th grade social studies curriculum. • This curriculum has been adopted by the state of Florida for use in 2012 and was developed by the Florida Joint Center for Citizenship through collaboration with the University of Central Florida, and The University of Florida. • At this time there is no at home textbook for this course. www.mrharbaugh.com

Curriculum • Unit 2 • • Unit 3- American Government Foundations • • Unit 3 Key Points- Students will learn the basic principals of our founding fathers, the main principals of the Declaration of Independence, and the main principals of the U.S Constitution.                             www.mrharbaugh.com

Curriculum • Unit 3 • • Unit 4- The United States and its Federal Government • • Unit 4 Key Points- Students will learn about the geography of the United States, the three branches of the U.S. government, how the U.S. government compares to others, and the U.S. economy.                               www.mrharbaugh.com

  8. Curriculum • Unit 4 • • Unit 2- State and Local Government • • Unit 2 Key Points- Students will learn the roles of Florida’s city, county, and state governments including Palm Harbor and Pinellas County.                               www.mrharbaugh.com

  9. Curriculum • Unit 5 • • Unit 5- Elections, Parties, and Pressure Groups • • Unit 5 Key Points- Students will learn about political parties, voting, special interest groups, and the role the media plays in elections.                               www.mrharbaugh.com

  16. Grading Policy • Each assignment is worth a point value. • The points a student earns on a given assignment are divided by the total points the assignment is worth to determine a percentage and letter grade. www.mrharbaugh.com

  17. Grading Policy • Student’s final grades are found by dividing the points each student earns by the total possible points in the grading period. • For example, a student who earns 300 points in a grading period when 350 points were possible will earn an 85% B for the grading period. (300/350= .85 = 85% = B) www.mrharbaugh.com

  18. Homework • One or two homework assignment a week. • Announced, posted in class, entered in Parent Connect, and posted on the homework link at www.mrharbaugh.com. • If a student does not have internet access he or she may get a hard copy of the homework assignment. www.mrharbaugh.com

  19. Late Work • The due date for each assignment is posted at the assignment sheet link at www.mrharbaugh.com and on the assignment sheet posted in the classroom. • Assignments turned in after the due date will be graded, and then the score will be reduced by 50% as a penalty. After 5 days they will not be given any credit • The only exception is excused absences or students with IEPs or 501 plans that specify the accommodation of extended time. That accommodation will be given as long as the assignment is turned in within a reasonable  time. www.mrharbaugh.com

  20. Monitoring Student Grades • A. Progress Reports/ Report Cards • Progress reports are given to students, school wide, every three weeks • report cards are given to students every 6 weeks. • B.
