By focusing on each of these areas, I have become a more well-rounded leader.

  3. Data Analysis Leader • demonstrates the ability to lead teams to analyze multiple sources of data to identify improvement needs, symptoms and root causes. Internship • Completed FTE counts – Oct., Dec., Feb. • Reviewed individual student achievement, standardized, vocational and psychological data to develop IEP. • Conducted WADE Test for Wilson Reading Program to determine need for additional reading intervention.

Curriculum, Assessment, Instruction Leader • demonstrates the ability to implement a systems approach to instruction in a standards-based environment prioritizing curriculum standards, developing aligned assessments and planning instruction to improve student achievement. Internship • Organizing data for GA Alternate Assessment into a portfolios • Gathering curriculum guides/maps and units for K-12 teachers @ Mainstay Academy • Administered standardized, achievement and vocational assessments for grades K-12. • Ordering necessary textbooks for high school classes.

  5. Performance Leader • demonstrates the ability to strategically plan, organize and manage school systems and processes necessary to improve student achievement. Internship • Discuss issues, procedures and policies relating to Sp.Ed. students. • Served on NCSS Transition Task Force

  6. Operations Leader • demonstrates the ability to effectively and efficiently organize resources, processes and systems to support teaching and learning. Internship • Attained and distributed curriculum guides to Mainstay teachers. • Presented new graduation rule requirements to staff. • Presented new SEMSNet procedures to staff.

  7. Relationship Leader • demonstrates the ability to identify and develop relationships among customer and stakeholder groups and communicate school goals and priorities focused on student learning. Internship • Represented Mainstay, and NCSS, on an interagency council for at-risk students. • Served on NCSS Transition Task Force, with other NCSS Special Educators.

  8. Process Improvement Leader • demonstrates the ability to identify and map core processes and results to create action plans designed to improve student achievement. Internship • Procured necessary materials - textbooks, teacher editions, resource books, etc. for Mainstay teachers. • Developed safety plan for hazardous weather (tornadoes).

  9. Change Leader • demonstrates the ability to drive and sustain change in a collegial environment focused on continuous improvement in student achievement. Internship • Developed School-to-Work Transition Program for Mainstay Academy. • Researched, proposed, developed and sought funding for CTAE program at Mainstay Academy.

  10. Learning and Development Leader • demonstrates the ability to guide the development of professional learning communities to develop leaders at all levels of the organization. Internship • Sought, identified and distributed resources to teachers at Mainstay Academy. • Actively supported teachers and staff at Mainstay Academy in pursuing higher degrees. • Mentored new teachers.

  11. Areas under Development… • I have come to realize that I must: • understand that I cannot do it all! • everyone wants, and deserves, to be heard. • there must be a balance between work and life. • if it is not perfect… that is okay!!!

In Summation • When I began this process, I felt as though I knew exactly how to lead. • Throughout this process, however, I have grown as both an educator and a leader. • I have learned the many benefits that good leaders can bestow upon a school, classroom, student and community. • I have witnessed, and recognized, the detrimental effect a poor leader can have upon every aspect of the educational process. • I have developed a deeper sense of myself, as well as this profession. • I have become more reflective and empathic.
