2012 APMA Young Physicians Institute

Podiatric Medical Licensing Boards are essential to protecting public health and ensuring the qualifications of podiatrists. They act as the vital link between consumers and licensed professionals, processing applications, handling complaints, and imposing disciplinary actions when necessary. Board members, appointed by the governor, include licensed podiatrists and public representatives. In Iowa, recent legislation has expanded the board’s governance to include pedorthists and orthotists, enhancing oversight. These boards ensure safe and effective podiatric care while facilitating continuing education and networking opportunities for members.
