  1. Prone to Wander2 Chronicles 14-16

  2. Prone to Wander2 Chronicles 14-16 • King Asa • King of Judah from 910-869 BC 41yrs • Great grandson of Solomon • Grandson of Rehoboam • Son of Abijah • Did what was right before God • Enjoyed a period of extended peace and prosperity during the first part of his reign. 2 Chron 14: 2-7 • Sought the Lord in spite of the odds!

  3. Prone to Wander2 Chronicles 14-16 • Well equipped army 300,000 troops from Judah 280,000 troops from Benjamin • First big test came with Zerah the Cushite (Ethiopian) faced 1,000,000 troops and 300 chariots • Not Good Odds! 42% more of the enemy! Almost a 2 to 1 ratio • Asa Called on the Lord and the Lord delivered • Destroyed the Cushites and had gathered lots of booty to boot! 2 Chron 14: 9-15

  4. Prone to Wander2 Chronicles 14-16 • Reform continues: 2 Chron 15 • Destroyed items of idolatry throughout the land • Removed his own mother from power because of an idol • Lead the people into a covenant to seek the Lord • All who would not seek the Lord were put to death whether small or great!! • Heart was fully committed to the Lord

  5. Prone to Wander2 Chronicles 14-16 • Asa’s Last Years: 2 Chron 16 • King Baasha of Israel was fortifying the border of • Israel and Judah preventing anyone from coming • or going. • Instead of seeking the Lord, Asa took the silver and • gold out of the treasury and made a treaty with the • King of Syria. • Told by Hanani that because of his treaty with Syria • he was going to be at war, time of peace was over! • Asa became sick in his later years and sought the council of his • doctors instead of the Lord. • Most likely died out of fellowship with God

  6. Prone to Wander2 Chronicles 14-16 Question for today: Why as followers of Christ, do we walk in complete trust at some points in our lives and then at other times are willing to trade in our peace and hope for turmoil and despair?

  7. Prone to Wander2 Chronicles 14-16 1. Prosperity (Deut 8) It is a blessing from God BUT…… It can lead to a sense of satisfaction and contentment outside of God. It may cause us to forget the past. Action Item: Let’s not be tempted into minimizing our prosperity by comparing ourselves to others! 2. People (1 Samuel 8) God can use people in our lives, BUT…. Big trouble starts when we value human help over Godly assistance. If human wisdom is primarily what we seek, then we forgo God’s peace, provision, and perfect timing. Action Item: Use people as a resource, not a resolution!
