Singular project promoted by Business development Heavy Transport SD Development Work Collaboration model to create a new trailer concept Since it was decided to use an advanced rolled formed shape, the project counted with the collaboration of Brausa, a local roll forming company • Actors roles: • Lecitraileris the project owner, the target is a new advanced light trailer made out AHSS • Vehival is the engineering company (belonging to the Universidad de Zaragoza), it has been in charge of FEM simulations and prototypes testing • SSAB is the AHSS supplier, giving also knowledge in the project phase on materials selection and processes
Development Work Project description Advanced High Strength Steel semitrailer development • Flat platform trailer chassis. • Explore the aluminium solution and get same function and weight. • Brainstorming to decide new concept for the floor. • FEM model and simulations, including global and local loading cases. • FEM Structural Optimization phase. • Prototypes for static testing for the floor. • Whole trailer prototype testing (fatigue performance).

Development Work Conclusions • Dogal 1000 DPX is a perfect solution when roll formed as a structural floor. • Stiffness and strength are excellent, better than other configurations, according FEM. • When combining Dogal UHS and Domex EHS, weight and performance we get the aluminum solution, but at a fraction of its cost. • Decreased wood and steel consumption, in respect to the traditional steel design. • Joining ways is an issue under development process (prototype vs. production). • Fatigue test approved. • Final improved design allows transport inside ISO containers (bolted neck area).
