Math Curriculum Grade 3 • Representing, comparing and describing numbers to 1000 • Apply estimation strategies to predict sums and differences of two 2-digit numerals in a problem solving context. • Demonstrate an understanding of addition and subtraction of numbers with answers to1000 • Demonstrate an understanding of increasing and decreasing patterns • Measuring and estimating length (cm., m), width, and height objects • Sort regular and irregular polygons according to the number of sides • Graphing • Multiplication to 5x5 and introduction to division

  7. Program • Didyou Know… thatthere are 4 stages of language acquisition: • Confusion • Frustration • Comprehension • Oral communication

  8. English • Your child will receive 150 minutes of English literacy instruction per week. • The topics covered will include: • What makes us part of a community? • What makes a good story? • How do citizens shape our province? • Writing activities will focus on: Descriptive writing, Narratives and Persuasive Writing.

  9. Evaluation/Parent-Teacher Conferences • Your child will receive their first report card in November. • It will be based on: 1) Observations in class 2) Evaluations 3) Final projects • At the end of the reporting period, you will be invited to come and meet with us so we can discuss your child’s accomplishments. In the meantime please don’t hesitate to contact me with any concerns.

  10. Homework • Homework will be given on Monday (or 1st school day) for the week. • It will include reading and a math activity. • If there are any difficulties or questions with homework, please let me know. • Homework should not take any more than 30 minutes in total.

  11. Communication If you wish to speak with me, for any reason, please send me a note, write a message in your child’s agenda or call me at the school. If necessary, we will set up an appointment to meet. I am looking forward to this school year. You will find monthly newsletters, class schedule, Math websites, French songs, and weekly homework. • Notes in the agenda • Phone calls

  12. Just a friendly reminder… • Please try to pack nutritious snacks for your child. Think Green Healthy Eating • Please remember to pack reusable bottles and containers as often as possible.
