  2. "Microsoft’s only factory asset is the human imagination," observed the New York Times Magazine writer Fred Moody.... After exposing an audience to the Microsoft quote, I ask a telling question: • "Does anyone here know what it means to 'manage' the human imagination?" So far, not a single hand has gone up, including mine. I don't know what it means to manage the human imagination either, but I do know that imagination is the main source of value in the new economy. And I know we better figure out the answer to my question—quick.TOM PETERS Why manage ….. !;-) ?

  3. What do a research and development lab, a children's playground, or a musician's studio all have in common? They are all environments that encourage people to explore and experiment with ideas and behaviors.

  5. Looking from ... 4 perspectives

  6. 'You can build a great company without fixed plans’ R. Semler "The desire for uniformity is a major problem with IT," he says. "But it is a sub-product of the same problems that plague management, which is the need to feel in control, that we're all on the same page, and everyone is being treated equally. But what I want to ask is, 'Why do we all need to be on the same page?'And you realize, of course, that no two people are equal in any respect."

  7. You can be unbuttoned and creative without sacrificing profit • Forget about the top line. • Some are meant to stay small • Never stop being a start-up. • Every six months each business rethinks its purpose • 'don't be a nanny.' • Most companies treat their workers like children • 'let talent find its place.' • Semco allows people to choose the projects • Make decisions quickly and openly • Partner promiscuously • It is pure arrogance to think that you can do it all yourself.

  8. Simplicity amid complexity- connectivity What attracts people ? All it takes is faith in people: Given the need for a profit and clear ethical restraints... allow people to realize these goals according to their own interacting inner imaginations. Teams will become self-organizing.

  9. The integral perspective: Semco *no dress code *mandatory vacation time *employees suggest what they should be paid * learn each other's jobs • company's financials published internally • Flextime • no business plan • No corporate strategy • No mission statement individual • *No dedicated receptionists • evaluate their bosses • tolerate dissent—even when divisive • employees create identity • No supervision/control staff set their schedules staff set their own times No organization chart No HR dept. No career planning collective

  10. The most powerful tool for creativity is personal behavior, teamwork and process. IDEO CALLS IT THE DEEP DIVE

  11. The integral perspective: IDEO Challenge & involvement Freedom Risk taking • Playfulness & humor • Knowledge management • Diversity in project groups individual Trust & openness Debates Low conflict Dynamism Idea time Idea support Tight creative process management collective

  12. Company’s identity: CORE is authentic - Imago (persona) changes * Identity is determined by the interest and initiatives of the people. * It is not fixed and imposed. * As in humans it changes to meet changing conditions.
