Personalization • We will foster academic foundations, communication skills, critical thinking, leadership, collaboration, employability and career development, technical/technology skills and goal setting. • Our faculty will utilize data analysis of student interests, parental surveys and prior academic performance. • Looped career pathway classes enable instructors to establish and employ effective, adaptive pedagogy. • Opportunities for job shadowing, mentoring, work experience, apprenticeships and internships with our community partners • Complementary classes at district occupational centers, ROP community locations, adult schools and local community colleges.

Collaboration/Parent and Community Engagement • Student led conferences • School-wide parent conferences, meetings and other events • Communications through a variety of 21st century technologies: • Regular monitoring of the school climate and culture through parent, student, and faculty surveys. • E-mail system • ConnectEd communications • Utilization of the Sylmar website • Our existing resources such as the Parent Center, our Sylmar Neighborhood Partners and Educare • Provide parents with learning opportunities such as workshops on topics: A-G requirements, intervention programs, CAHSEE workshops and assisting their student to become college and career ready. • BTD’s coordinator will reach out to community organizations and institutions to advance professional relationships and student opportunities

8. Professional Development • 5-Day summer training focused on Project-Based Learning and thematic units • Weekly meetings • Banked Tuesday professional development • “Cycle of continuous improvement” • Analyze data from CST’s, CELDT, CAHSEE, periodic assessments and common/formative assessments. • Peer observation calendar and a schedule to analyze the observation data • Teaching and Learning Framework, Rigor and Relevance Framework • Summative assessments which will determine the content of future professional developments.
