Connor plans to take himself and three friends to a Major League Baseball game, with each ticket costing $95. Additionally, each person will spend $10 on refreshments. The total cost can be expressed with the equation y = 95x, where y is the total cost and x is the number of tickets, ranging from 1 to 4. The discrete nature of the domain reflects that only whole tickets can be purchased. Understanding how many tickets are bought directly influences the total expenditure, which ranges from $95 to $380 depending on the number of attendees.

Real World Problem • Connor wants to take four people including himself to a Major league baseball game. Each ticket cost ninety five dollars. Each person buys refreshments for themselves and the refreshments cost ten dollars.
Equation • My equation to my problem is, y = 95 (x) dependent: is the total cost of all the tickets independent: the total number of tickets
Independent and dependent • The total cost of the tickets all together depends on the number of tickets • The total cost is the y value • However many tickets there are is the x value
Domain and Range • Domain: domain is the set of possible x values • My domains are 1, 2, 3, and 4 • Range: range is the set of permissible y values • My ranges are 95, 190, 285, and 380
Domain and Range Continued • My domain is discrete because you can’t have half of a ticket.
Equation Stated ninety five x four = y
Function Notation • One ticket equals ninety five dollars and Connor is bringing three people and himself.
