This piece explores the Great Depression, starting with the stock market crash of October 1929 and the economic conditions that led to it. With over 13 million Americans losing their jobs, the era of hardship prompted significant government intervention through Roosevelt's New Deal, aimed at relief, recovery, and reform. The social impacts and cultural expressions during this period, including the poignant song "Brother, Can You Spare a Dime," are also examined to provide a deeper understanding of the era's struggles and resilience.
