Efficient Rib Design for SVD2 Gravitational Ladder Sag Prevention

Innovative rib design using Zylon FRP to minimize sag in SVD2 layers, incorporating line density, length, & Young’s modulus. Achieves sagF of 5mm for 4th and 5th layer. Consistent X0 compared to BN rib in SVD1.

  1. Design of Rib for SVD2 Y.Yamada at SVD meeting on Apr. 19, 2001 • Gravitational sag of ladder • supported at both edge : sagS = 5wL4/384EI ~ 28mm for SVD1-3rd-layer • fixed at both edge : sagF = wL4/384EI ~ 6mm for SVD1-3rd-layer • w(N/m):line density, L(m):length, E(N/m2):Young’s modulus, • Design of Rib for SVD2 • Zylon : FRP with zero electric conductivity and E ~ 50GPa • sagF ~ 5 mm for 4th and 5th layer • same X0 (~0.16%) with BN rib in SVD1 (X0 : Si~9.4cm, Zylon ~26cm, CFRP ~24cm) • CTE : Si ~ 3106, Zylon ~ 6106, CFRP ~ 1106
