  3. GENERAL COURSEINFORMATION • 1.5 units of credit • 8-week course • Your completion date is based on today’sdate • You will be given weekly completion dates when you finish the orientation.

  4. Login/out each time you attend The computer tracks your attendance Minimum 3 hours per week—you choose the hours you want Schedule most of your lab time when instructor is on duty for checking lessons and reviewing tests. Instructor schedules are posted throughout the lab 30-minutes MINIMUM for computer to log your time ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENTS

  5. PROGRESS REQUIREMENTS • Reach weekly completion goals • Complete at least 4 assignments per week • It’s GOOD to be ahead of completion goals • If you get behind, put in additional hours in lab to catch up

  6. WHAT IF I GET BEHIND? • In this open-entry class, you sign the course contract understanding that you will have to attend a minimum of three hours per week. • As stated, you may be automatically dropped or receive an “F” grade if you are not maintaining satisfactory attendance and/or progress. • It is YOUR responsibility to keep current in the class.

  7. TEXT AND SUPPLIES • Main Text • Filing: A Course in Modern Methods for the Business Office, 4th ed. • Filing Kit • Filing Practice, 4th ed. • Supplies • Progress Record (provided) • 1 Scantron No. 884-ES for final exam

  8. THE PROGRESS RECORD • Your roadmap through the course—tells how and when to complete each lesson • Take quizzes as indicated on the progress record • always put it in filing cabinet when leaving the lab

  9. THE TEXTBOOK • Text must be completed before you do the practice kit • Read each unit and study all examples of the rules • Write all of your answers in your text-workbook • Complete the check your comprehension exercises and verify answers with key in back of your workbook • Go over the worksheets for each unit with an instructor

  10. THE PRACTICE KIT • Now you will apply the filing rules by actually handling and filing the letters and other documents found in your practice set. • You do not need to bring the kit with you until you finish the red filing workbook.

  11. TESTING & GRADING • Your Progress Folder tells you when to take a quiz. Do not go to the next unit until you have completed the quiz. • Your course grade is based on total of points earned in the course including • 100 – 95% = A • 94 – 90% = B • 89 – 85% = C • 84 – 80% = D

  12. SPECIAL NOTES • Do your filing exercises at the table in the back of the lab. • When you are ready to have an instructor check your lesson by waving the yellow flag • Remember, file your progress folder before you leave the lab!

  14. WHAT TO DO NOW? • Print your name on the Progress Folder (last name first) • Sign the contract agreement at the bottom of the progress and give your phone number • Give your progress folder to the teacher aide for your progress dates • THE END OF FILING ORIENTATION!
