  2. How Many Children Survived?? • Only 6-11% of children survived!!!

  4. Anna’s Story • Anna was only a year and a half old when her town became a forced labor camp. • Anna hid in a false ceiling while her parents were at work. • She spent time in a psychiatric hospital, but later became a social worker and even took her children on a trip back to Germany.

  5. Augusta’s Story • 6 when captured. • Hidden in a convent. • Little is known about Augusta’s liberation.

  6. Alfred’s Story • Got a Post card for deportation. • Had to go to a children’s home. • Nazis raided the children’s home is 1943. • Able to escape to a farm. • Had to face the rest of his life as an orphan.

  7. Hedy’s Story • Hedy was unaware that she was Jewish. • She was one of only two Jewish students at school. • She lived with a family that did not feed her during the war. • Hedy traveled to Germany after the war was over. • Hedy says, "I call myself a survivor... I know what happened to me, and what might have happened."

  8. Help of Prisoners • Prisoners helped hide as many children as possible. • Many children were sent to children homes.

  9. Ages for Survival • The chances for survival for Jewish and some non-Jewish adolescents (13-18 years old) were greater, as they could be deployed at forced labor.
