  4. Presidential Qualifications #8 • Term 4 years (two term max.) • Selection Elected by electoral college Electoral vote= representatives + senators • Illinois • Requirements • Must be 35 years old • be a resident of the U.S. for at least 14 years • a natural born citizen

  5. Presidential Roles #8 • Chief Executive • of which he/she has a cabinet to aid him • makes sure all the laws are carried out • oversees depts., agencies, and commissions • Chief of State • can pardon and grant reprieves criminals • give medals to national heroes • greet visitors to the country • gives the State of the Union address each year to report on the condition of the nation

Presidential Roles #8 • Chief Diplomat • can make treaties & executive agreements with other countries • appoints ambassadors • Commander-in-Chief • chooses military commanders • uses armed forces to deal with domestic & foreign crisis • Chief Legislator • suggests new laws and meets with Congress members • can veto bills
