Interprofessional Wellness Clinic Rebecca McMurphy, Anna Rudd, Derek Sibley and Bryn Sugrue • What is the Interprofessional Wellness Clinic? • A half-day a week nationally recognized Interprofessional Wellness Clinic for diabetic patients run by students and faculty from nursing, optometry, and pharmacy (Interprofessional Wellness Clinic, 2012). • The Clinic & Volunteers Provide: • Personalized disease education • Disease-specific examination • One-on-one medication counseling • Glucose, cholesterol, and A1C profile monitoring • Integration of Theory • Dorothea Orem’s Self-Care Theory • “Nursing is a human service, and nurses design interventions to provide or to manage self-care actions for sustaining health or recovering from illness or injury (Taylor, 2011, p. 74). Evidence Based Practice Collaboration in healthcare leads to improved clinical and health outcomes (Trivedi et al., 2013).
