Community Service PowerPoint By: Logan Lamb
Definition of Service learning -a “course-based, credit-bearing educational experience in which students participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs and reflect on the service activity in such a way as to gain further understanding of course content, a broader appreciation of the discipline, and an enhanced sense of civic responsibility” (Bringle & Hatcher, 1995).
Benefits of Service Learning -Enriches student learning of course material and "brings books to life and life to books". -Engages students in active learning that demonstrates the relevance and importance of academic work for their life experience and career choices. -Increases awareness of current societal issues as they relate to academic areas of interest. -Broadens perspectives of diversity issues and enhances critical thinking skills. -Improves interpersonal skills that are increasingly viewed as important skills in achieving success in professional and personal spheres. -Develops civic responsibility through active community involvement. Diva Day Diva Day was an event put on by the Thomasville Times-Enterprise, which is the local newspaper. The event was based to raise money for the paper, but my grandmothers booth was set to raise money for Children’s Miracle Network (All proceeds went to CMN). I have a few pictures from the event showing me running the booth and a couple of pictures showing off the whole event.
We were selling BBQ plates and selling raffle tickets for Mother’s Day and Father’s day packages.
We were also selling raffle tickets and regular tickets for the Suwannee River Jam.
Archbold Hospital was at the event doing free blood pressure checks and finger pricks to check for diabetes.
These are the Chrome Divas, who are a group of women who ride motorcycles. They participate in many events to raise money for different organizations.
This is a picture of one of the conference rooms when everything was set up, organized, and not so chaotic.
And….this is a picture of the same conference room after everyone started showing up. This is nothing compared to the madness that actually ensued.
