  3. Comforters-in-Chief President Lincoln (16th) -Civil War President George W. Bush (43rd) -9/11 President Theodore Roosevelt (32nd) -World War II -Pearl Harbor Objective: How have our presidents used words to comfort and lead our nation in moments of national crisis?

September 11, 2001 • On September 11, 2001, 19 militants associated with the Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. • Over 3,000 people were killed during the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C., including more than 400 police officers and firefighters. • It was the second attack in all of U.S History that happened on American Soil • Launched the U.S. War on Terror: Afghanistan in November 2001 ; War in Iraq March 2003
