  2. Chapter 1 Test Review

  3. Essential Questions • How do you compare two real numbers in different forms? • How do you order real numbers that include both rational and irrational numbers? • How do you determine the values of irrational numbers?

  4. Order real numbers Convert all of these to decimals to make it simple to compare. Then place them on the number line... Real Numbers: all positive numbers, all negative numbers, and zero. (Everything on the number line). Example:Plot the following points on the number line…π , 6.25 , –5 ,

  5. How do you estimate the value of a non-perfect square root without a calculator? Find which two perfect squares it falls between, which one it is closer to, then estimate to the tenths place & check by multiplying your guess by itself.

  6. How do you change a fraction to a decimal?

  7. Convert all of these to decimals to make it simple to compare. Then place them in order using inequalities... Example:Place the following numbers in the correct order... π , 9.4 , –9.7 , By looking at the number line, the correct order is as follows:

  8. Create a number line and plot the numbers in ascending order. 6.78,    -9.9,    87%,    -21/4

  9. Different methods were used to estimate the diagonal length of a room in feet. The results were:Which list shows these diagonal lengths in order from greatest to least?

  10. Classifying numbers as rational or irrational

  11. What do you think rational means? If that’s what rational means, then what does irrational mean?

  12. In the context of numbers, rational means...it can be written as a fraction or whole number.

  13. Irrational numbers CANNOT be written as fractions or whole numbers.

  14. What are some examples of irrational numbers?

  15. REAL NUMBERS Irrational Numbers Rational Numbers_________ Rational only Integers Whole Numbers Natural Numbers

  18. Guiding Questions(you should be able to answer) • How do you compare two real numbers in different forms? • How do you order real numbers that include both rational and irrational numbers? • How do you determine the values of irrational numbers?
