  2. Wide Receiver Basics • Alignment • Stance • Blocking • Routes • Catching the football

  3. Alignment • Which side of the ball? • On or off the line of Scrimmage?

  4. Flankers • The WR to the TE side • 12-15 yards from the EMLOS • You should be 1/2 to 3/4 of a yard off the LOS

  5. Split End • The WR opposite the TE • 10-12 yards from the EMLOS • You need to be on the LOS

  6. Slot Receiver • Align 1/2 way between the split end and the offensive tackle • Your alignment off the LOS is the same as the flanker

  7. Stance • Sprinters’ stance • Inside foot up • The farther off the DB is the longer your stance can be • Good forward lean • DB should not be able to read your #’s • Hands Up • Ready to fight or run

  8. Blocking • Stalk block • Crack back • Cut-Off block • Blocking is taught using the ABCD’s • Alignment • Bead • Contact • Drive

  9. Stalk Block • Alignment • Where is the DB at? • Hard or Soft Corner?

  10. Stalk Block • Bead • On the Stalk block our aiming point is typically the Outside #

  11. Stalk Block • Contact • Is made with the heel of the hand with the thumbs up • We are trying to gain control of the breastplate of the shoulder pads • If you bounce off keep working to gain position and control

  12. Stalk Block • Drive • No Stalemates • Take the defender where he wants to go

  13. Stalk Blocking Drill 5 yards Sideline 10 yards DB, DB DB R R, R RB RB

  14. Crack Block • Alignment • Is he a LB or a S? • Is he in a position to or showing blitz? • Take an appropriate angle to the target

  15. Crack Block • Bead • Breakdown five yards from the target • Read the play • Get in position to make the block without committing a penalty

  16. Crack Block • Contact • Blocking area is the same as a stalk block • Force the defender to come underneath the block not play over it • NO PENALTIES!!!

  17. Crack Block • Drive • Pin the defender inside • If the opportunity presents put the player on the ground

  18. Cut Off Block • Alignment • Who is the 3rd level defender? • Bead • Same as stalk • Contact • Same as stalk • Drive • Same as stalk

  20. Ball Handling Drills • Can be done easily by kids on their own • Also make excellent warm up activities • Improves players ability to handle the ball • Strength • Quickness

  21. Speed and Quickness • Explosive movement are necessary to play receiver. • These drills also can be performed by kids outside of practice

Stationary Catch Thumbs and pointer fingers together Focus on the nose of the ball Catch the ball away from the body Eyes stay on the ball until it is tucked away Running Catch Pinkies together Use your back hand to stop the ball Use the front hand to catch it Catch the ball away from the body Eyes stay on ball until tucked away Mechanics of Catching
